In January the new leader of the NDP will be chosen at party's convention in Toronto. Six candidates have officially declared their intentions to run, including members of Parliament, a Toronto city councillor and other long-standing members of the party. Party members will vote can vote by mail, over the Internet or in person at the convention.

The Campaign Period is from June 6, 2002 to January 25, 2003. Other Important Dates:

Nov. 26- Final deadline for candidates to register for leadership. Deadline for receipt of constitutional amendments and resolutions.

Dec. 10- Membership deadline: to be eligible to vote for the leader, you must be a member in good standing by the deadline.

To be confirmed - Mail-in ballots go out and deadline for receipt of mail-in ballots.

Jan. 3 - Deadline for candidate’s to file interim financial statement.

Jan. 24- Federal Convention begins in Toronto at the National Trade Centre, 100 Princes’ Boulevard, Exhibition Place, Toronto. 

Jan. 25 - Voting Day.

Apr. 11 - Deadline for candidates to submit financial statements (revenue and expenditures) to Federal Office.

The voting process:
To vote, you must be a member in good standing 45 days before voting day. 
You can vote by mail by sending ballots two weeks prior, over the Internet or in person at the convention in Toronto.
