Summer grilling with Elizabeth May

[PoliticsWatch updated 5:15 p.m. June 28, 2007]

OTTAWA  — Green Party leader Elizabeth May has the most unique summer planned of all the party leaders.

May tells PoliticsWatch that she will spend her entire summer campaigning in Central Nova, the Nova Scotia riding where she will run against Foreign Affairs Minister Peter MacKay in the next election.

The Green leader plans to move into a house she recently purchased in New Glasgow.

"Going to the grocery store ends up campaigning because everyone comes up and talks to me and asks me what I think about the Atlantic Accord," said May.

The vacation portion of her summer will be spending time with her family and attending the various festivals and cultural events in the riding, such as the Antigonish Highland Games.

Of the five party leaders, May is the only one who does not barbecue.

"Vegetarians are never wild about barbeques," she explained.

Instead, May enjoys old-fashioned cookouts over a driftwood fire on the beach. Her favourite meal is veggie burgers or veggie dogs with corn on the cob soaked in sea water.
